My Story

Hello to all who are reading!

My name is Freddie Beard, I am a sufferer of Marfan's having been diagnosed since the age of 16. I was diagnosed after a junior doctor in the NHS noticed my protruding rib cage looking remarkably similar to a subject he had been studying recently, that being Marfan Syndrome.

Fast forward to 11 years later, with lots of tests, scans and successful open heart surgery in 2016 in between, I am now in better health and in better shape to take on this mammoth challange of the 6 miles of the Serpentine Swim!

Previously I was able to conquer the 2 miles with my sister, with both of us raising a fantastic amount for this great charity, but this time I wanted to try and go bigger and better in the hopes of raising even more, and to continue promoting just how normal and active a life those suffering with Marfans can lead.

I hope I can help inspire those of you diagnosed recently, and that with the right help and treatment, you too can achieve your physical and personal goals as any person would in their day to day lives.
